Aria Huffman - Forest Bathing Source
For our annotated bibliography assignment I found a source about forest bathing through the CNU library database. My source by Linda Ardito, “The Health of Humans and of Planet Earth: Correspondences.” The Poetry in Philosophy: Essays in Honor of Christos C. Evangeliou, discusses the the interconnectedness of human well-being and environmental health through the lens of forest bathing. Forest bathing is a direct translation from the Japanese practice of Shinrin’yoku which means to take in the forest through all human senses. Ardito believes that by immersing one's self in the natural world you can see both physical and mental health improvements. I have personally seen the health benefits of being immersed in nature throughout my own life. When I am stressed, anxious, or overwhelmed I find myself called to the natural world. I hike, camp, and visit natural spaces to ease my mind and I believe that even a quick but mindful walk in the woods always helps. Ardito also contends that embracing forest bathing can cultivate a deeper awareness of environmental stewardship, as individuals come to recognize their responsibility in maintaining the delicate balance of nature. I also support this claim as I feel that people who spend more time in nature also respect its gifts far more than those who spend the majority of their time in urbanized/industrialized environments.
