Aria Huffman - National Park Service

Post graduation I am unsure of exactly where I want to take my career however, for years I have been interested in the National Park Service. Being able to hear first-hand experience within any field you are interested in is very beneficial. This is why I was extremely grateful and excited to hear about Ieasa's experience working for the National Park Service. Ieasa specifically works in Yellowstone and though her focus is different from mine hearing her experiences opened my eyes to new possibilities. I've always worried about if my major could be applied to different but similar fields. After hearing her speak I felt reassured that I will be able to continue to adapt and learn once I am on my own career path. As I am applying for environmental-focused internships I have been applying to a broad array of options. I hope that this summer I will be able to hold a position in some organization or corporation relating to environmental conservation and preservation. I have reached out to Ieasa regarding her expertise in the National Park Service as I believe that I would learn so much through a position in the NPS.

Needless to say I was just as heartbroken as the first time I read this novel/watched the 2007 film. Book review- The Call of the Wild

 I read The Call of the Wild by Jack London a few years ago and read it a second time a few months ago. It is one of my favorite books, not only because it involves the wilderness, dogs, and wolves but also because of the bond between Buck and John Thornton. At the beginning of the book, we learn that Buck is taken from his home in California and was sold as a sled dog in the Klondike Gold Rush. I remember the book being difficult to read at times due to the abuse that Buck and the other dogs faced, but it also opened my eyes to how important it is to respect every form of life, including a dog’s. While he was cared for and treated well in California, his master, Judge Miller, treated him more as a friend rather than a beloved companion, hence the lack of homesickness expressed by Buck.
