Dylan Murray - outside reading 4

 I want to talk about Garrard's Ecocriticism, which focuses on how environmental justice is important as we evolve as a society. This is meaning mostly for our relationship as humans to the environment around us. I personally take this narrative as an ethical equation, like many environmental factors, which proves our rights as people and what we need to do with them. An anthropocentric community is too strong for the planet to handle. I think the concept of an apocalypse is a point that most people may look over. It may seem fictional, but it brings an interesting point to our environment. the planet would collapse due to humans or with something that would affect them. But the interesting point is that we can be the saviors even tho we destroy the world.

 Recently I decided to give the renowned masterpiece by Jon Krakauer known as Into the Wild  another read. Needless to say I was just as heartbroken as the first time I read this novel/watched the 2007 film. Audrey Hales - American Camino Chapter 2

  Chapter 2 titled, “Spiritual Journey Versus Aesthetic Tourism” begins by discussing a hiker's experiences with Blood Mountain, many hikers being very thrown off by the intense discomfort. Dr. Redick describes this disillusionment well when he says “Their preconceptions did not prepare them for the journey. An aesthetic amble through the wilderness was never thought to be so uncomfortable, exhausting, emotionally draining, and lacking in visual stimulation”. I found this quote to be very amusing, because unless you have embarked on some version of long distance hiking you would not know the true meaning of it. To everyone that has never hiked on the Appalachian Trail, it is a scenic breath of fresh air on rolling mountains with mist and beautiful sunsets playing on rock outcroppings. Book review- The Call of the Wild

 I read The Call of the Wild by Jack London a few years ago and read it a second time a few months ago. It is one of my favorite books, not only because it involves the wilderness, dogs, and wolves but also because of the bond between Buck and John Thornton. At the beginning of the book, we learn that Buck is taken from his home in California and was sold as a sled dog in the Klondike Gold Rush. I remember the book being difficult to read at times due to the abuse that Buck and the other dogs faced, but it also opened my eyes to how important it is to respect every form of life, including a dog’s. While he was cared for and treated well in California, his master, Judge Miller, treated him more as a friend rather than a beloved companion, hence the lack of homesickness expressed by Buck. Even though Buck was a suburban dog, there was always something different about him, he was strong, brave, and fierce.
