Sophia Dobbins in-class guest speaker Ieasa Custer
Recently in class guest speaker Ieasa Custer came in to discuss her experience working within the natural parks service throughout the United States. I found her discussion very interesting and being a recent Christopher Newport University graduate it was very cool to hear about post-graduate life and entering the workforce. Why I am not personally interested in archaeology or forest service her experience starting out in the forest service at the front gates of Yellowstone and working her way up was very insightful in learning how to work my own self into a job I want even if I'm not starting in the original position I want. Ieasa discussed how she networked with other people in Yellowstone when they would come through the gates to work in the morning. I also found it helpful when she discussed applying for jobs and applying earlier than you would expect because it can take several months to hear back from the job you want. This was something I had never thought about and found it very helpful. I found Ieases discussion to be very useful and interesting even though I am not interested in her particular career field.
