Emily Sutherlin- 12/5/24 Eco-Therapy

Ecotherapy is intentionally spending time outdoors with Mother Nature and noticing that it helps their mental health. I had not heard of eco-therapy before this class, but I had done it before without realizing it. When I have felt overwhelmed by classes or relationships, I would go to Riverside Beach and sit on this bench and just be with nature, and feel the ground beneath my feet, smell the salty waters, feel the breeze go by as I watch the birds fly by. It would help me feel better and calmer. I would sometimes listen to a Ram Dass podcast and his words of wisdom to help me gain awareness of a situation, detach my ego from wanting control, and practice surrendering to God. I learned from Mother Nature about surrender. Nature is in a constant flow state; it just simply being and does what it is meant to. We humans could learn a thing or two from it.
