Alexandria Griffith: American Camino
In the beginning of the book it talks about the different ways in which individuals can experience the AT. People can walk, drive, and bike to see the beauty of the trail, but do these people all share the same experience? This is something I thought a lot about when I first read this book earlier this year prior to my backpacking trip on the AT. From a quick thought, all if all of these individuals are seeing the same views, would they be sharing the same experience? In some ways I believe that they would be. If all of the individuals were to be standing looking at the same view, there would be some similarties in their experince. The may see the same trees, rocks, water, ect. But I do not believe that they would be sharing journey, meaning that there would be differences within their experince and journey to the location. One hiker might have spent all day making it to a location, where as another drove. The views may be the same, allowing for a shared experince at the location, but their experiences getting there allow for drastic differences in their journeys. I do not believe that any of these journeys are wrong, but I do agree that it allows for differences to be accounted for. As touched on above, the hiker may have spent all day to get to the location. Where as the driver could have decided last minute that he wanted to go to the AT. The preperation level is something that also comes into account when considering eachs journey and path in which they take to get from one location to another.
