Caitlin McClafferty- American Camino Chapter 4
Chapter 4 of American Camino Walking as Spiritual Practice on the Appalachian Trail discusses wilderness and dives into if it is able to still be found. In class we were asked what we think of when he hears the words “wilderness” and “nature.” Being asked that question, it is difficult to have a straight answer.
To me I think of organic. In American Camino Kip Redick talks about how wilderness means untamed by man. I think it is possible to find true wilderness, but it is very rare as humans always change and try to tame everywhere we explore.
Even if humans did not change an environment in major ways of taking things from an area, us being there will affect the area at least a little. This happens with every animal that lives or passes through the wild.
