Caitlin McClafferty- Ishamael Book

Ishmael is a book I recently read written by Daniel Quinn. It is a book about a man who craves to find out the meaning of life, and answers to his questions. He searches for a teacher to give him the answers. At one point he seems to give up until he sees an ad from Ishmael.

One day he sees an ad for a teacher looking for a disciple to teach, and once he gets to the address he realizes Ishmael, who is the name of the teacher, was in fact a gorilla. Throughout the book the two of them talk and overtime as he speaks with Ishmael, he learns what leavers and takers are.

Takers are humans who think that the Gods created the earth for them, while leavers live amongst other creatures on the planet and don't try to control the world. Takers trying to control all of the outcomes of life and putting themselves above all other creatures are bound to fail. Reading this book we learn that it is engraved in our minds that we are the “Gods” of earth, and in believing so we are thought to believe evolution ends with us, which will never be true.
