Caitlin McClafferty- My Experience In Norway

This summer I traveled with my dad to Europe. One of the countries we went to was Norway. While there, we stayed in Oslo and Bergen and being there felt so much different than being in Virginia and even the US in general. Norway seems to have built their country around the citizens. For instance, there is a law that a certain amount of land must be used to make public parks. Everywhere we went in Oslo, Norway there were people playing in the park or sunbathing. Every mile there seemed to be at least 1 park, along with playgrounds, statues, benches and public pools.

Everyone was very friendly and I think that was because they were in the moment and not on their phones, which is another big thing we noticed throughout our visit. This is very different from what we were used to being from the US. It was so enjoyable being able to walk, bike or scooter everywhere and to be able to be in the present with everyone around us. Studies have shown that spending time outside can improve your physical and mental health making you happier and regulates your emotions. Being there and mirroring their lifestyle made me feel more present and calm, and I learned a lot from that experience.
