Lyla Bouchard - The Clean Air Act Sections 111 and 112
In POLS 371 we had to choose a policy to revise, and I chose Sections 111 and 112 of the Clean Air Act. Section 111 implements guidelines for fossil-fuel power plants, while Section 112 focuses on regulating harmful emissions from industrial facilities. My proposed revision aims to focus on encouraging the transition to renewable energy sources instead of simply regulating current facilities. While these sections do control pollution, they don’t go far enough in driving the necessary change to clean energy. Section 112 also has not been revised since 1990 and is not up to date on current scientific research. I think it’s important that we have regulations pushing for renewable energy. Without a change, we risk continuing to rely on fossil fuels and The Clean Air Act will remain insufficient in mitigating climate change.
