Lyla Bouchard - Gibraltar

During a family vacation in middle school, I had the opportunity to visit some family friends in Spain. While Spain itself was enjoyable, the highlight of my trip was when we traveled to Gibraltar, a British territory. Gibraltar had stunning views, but what made it unforgettable was the monkeys who are free to roam and interact with tourists. Unlike many animals that shy away from humans, these monkeys approached and interacted with us throughout the trails. I even had a monkey climb on my shoulders. I thought it was crazy how comfortable the monkeys coexist with humans. There was no danger or aggression, just a sense of mutual respect. It’s such a rare experience to be able to interact with wild animals and feel safe. I think it’s fascinating how wildlife and humans can sometimes interact peacefully, and it was definitely a memorable experience.
